I witnessed the greatest engineering feat of the 20th century – I saw Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walk on the moon. It was humanity’s first, tentative step beyond our home planet and one that we have not repeated since 1972.

The Hollywood-Haverhill connection is where we will find our story. There is, in fact, a second, less well known Haverhill-Hollywood connection. It’s a story that links together Haverhill, alleged ax-murder Lizzie Borden, President Theodore Roosevelt, the United States Supreme Court, a naval destroyer and, of course, Hollywood.

Remembering the Desert Ghost
When Lady Be Good failed to return to base, a search was organized. Planes fanned out over the Mediterranean looking for wreckage, life-rafts or any trace of the aircraft or crew. One plane searched the desert to the South of the base. Nothing was found. The crew were declared missing, and after a year passed, declared dead.

Block Island’s U-boat
Midway between the low hump of Block Island and a rocky point called Judith, lie the remnants of the final skirmish of World War II’s Battle of the Atlantic.
